Opunake

Situated right on the coast overlooking a magnificent swimming beach, Opunake is the central service area for the surrounding farming community and the central town in Coastal Taranaki. Opunake offers a wide range of retail shops - from food services through to amazing gift shops.

Mt Egmont National Park draws tourists from all over New Zealand and further afield. With its numerous mountain walks and well equipped huts, Mt Taranaki is a year round attraction to the tramper as well as a popular ski field.

For the sports enthusiast, the coast offers great surf breaks including an artificial surf reef, deep sea fishing, boating, windsurfing - in fact virtually any sport.

Opunake itself, because of its relaxed lifestyle, has attracted a large number of retired people as well as holiday makers. It is a friendly community with numerous factilities and activities. These include a community owned picture theatre, indoor heated swimming pool and an active theatre group which all help contribute to a strong community spirit.
